Oh, so many. My parents tried very hard to get me involved in something, anything. I was in: ballet, tap, jazz, acting, soccer, cheerleading, color guard, baseball, karate, violin, guitar, drawing lessons, roller blading, skateboarding, swimming – you name it, they found it and threw me into it.
Ballet and violin were my longest running activity and hobby until I realized that I was never going to become a ballerina or a professional violinist. Teenage me decided that if it wasn’t going to pay out in some way – what was the point? Ah, capitalism.
Unfortunately for them, I am not a sports girly or outgoing enough to perform on a stage. I think the only hobby I stuck with was the one I found on my own – knitting. I was old enough when I started to realize that not everything needs to have a monetary value to have value, and it’s been wonderful to learn how to make my own sweaters, scarves, and hats.
There are plenty of things I’d enjoy learning how to do or have more practice in now that I’m in my 30s – yoga, dance, and/or writing for example. The time will pass regardless, so may as well spend some of it learning and actually enjoying something new.
